Day 10: The Social Proof Avalanche ☃️
How Eddie Shleyner converts visitors at 2X the normal rate.
Welcome to Day 10 of the 30 Days of Growth. This is a pop-up newsletter put together by Chenell from Growth In Reverse. I've pulled 30 creators together to help give one short, actionable way you can either grow or improve your email list.
Let’s talk through how Eddie Shleyner (of VeryGoodCopy) uses a layered social proof wall to help him grow to 80,000+ subscribers.
He includes some of the most social proof I’ve ever seen for a free product (i.e. his newsletter). At first, I thought it was overkill, and it might be.
But then I realized he’s building a conversion machine.
Most people sprinkle testimonials around at random. Eddie has instead built a conversion engine you almost can’t say no to.
🧠 Why It Works
Social proof reduces friction. But stacked social proof—delivered in a deliberate sequence—completely destroys objections.
Multiple proof types trigger different buyer brains: Authority seekers notice logos. Emotional buyers are swayed by peer testimonials. Logical types want volume. You hit all of them.
It keeps building momentum: Each layer pulls the visitor deeper, building trust before the next CTA. It’s like warming them up step-by-step.
It answers “Should I trust this person?” at every level – from “big brands trust them” to “people like me trust them,” removing reasons to bounce.📊 Results
🔍 How Eddie Does It
Instead of scattering testimonials randomly, Eddie turned his homepage into a credibility funnel that escalates trust through intentional layers:
Big Logos – HubSpot, Forbes, and other major media brands.
Industry Experts – Endorsements from respected marketers and copywriters.
Video Testimonials – Short clips from real people sharing their experience.
Everyday Readers – A wall of 50+ short, specific testimonials from his audience.
“Load More” Button – Keeps the page clean while giving the option to see the full depth.
Longevity Signal – A subtle footer that says “Established in 2014.” This quietly signals that he’s not a fly-by-night marketer. Stability matters in trust-building.💡 How You Can Implement It
📊 Results
This strategy helps Eddie convert 20%+ of his website visitors to subscribers.
And he’s grown consistently—even while taking months off—because his homepage does the heavy lifting.
💡 How You Can Implement It
Here are some quick ways you can implement Eddie’s social proof avalanche:
Sort your proof: Logos, expert endorsements, peer quotes, everyday testimonials. Don’t just lump everything together – clarity comes from categorization.
Stack it in order of authority: From most recognized (logos) to most relatable (readers). You’re leading your visitors down a trust-building path. Make it deliberate, not random.
Drop CTAs after major proof segments: Don’t wait until the end to ask for a signup. You’ve earned some trust, capitalize on it.
Use “Load more” or carousels to manage space: Let people choose how deep they want to go. This creates perceived depth without sacrificing design or mobile readability.
Keep asking for testimonials: Add a line to your emails, DMs, or onboarding flows. Make it effortless for happy readers to say something nice. Over time, you’ll build a bank of proof like Eddie’s.
